Prof Tanja Opriessnig received her Mag. vet. med. and Dr. vet. med. in Veterinary Medicine, University of Veterinary Medicine, Austria, her PhD in Veterinary Pathology/minor statistics at the  Iowa State University. She is currently working as group leader in Terrestrial Livestock Virology in The Moredun Institute, professor, chair of Infectious Disease Pathology in The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, and Professor, in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine, Iowa State University. From 2010-2013, she was an associate professor, 2006-2010 , an assistant professor, and 2002-2006,  a postdoctoral research associate in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University.  Her research focus on pathogenesis, control, and diagnosis of infectious pathogens in pigs with emphasis on porcine circovirus (PCV), porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) , Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, porcine parvovirus (PPV), porcine astrovirus (PAstV), porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), porcine respiratory coronavirus (PRCV) and swine hepatitis E virus (HEV) among others including the impact of the microbiome on pathogens and vaccinations。She has over 266 peer reviewed manuscripts in various journals of veterinary relevance total.
